Military Winterfest

Feb. 9 – 13, 2017

The 3rd Annual Military Winterfest showcases four days of snow-filled fun, live entertainment, savory food & exclusive military discounts. Hosted and organized by the National Veterans Wellness & Healing Center Angel Fire, this will be a winter celebration of our military serving now and in the past.

Activities: Skiing, snowboarding, sleigh rides, tubing, snowshoeing, family and non-skier activities. Vet-to-Vet ski and snowboard lessons with Adaptive Ski Programs for vets with disabilities!

Vet2Vet

Military Winterfest features a unique Vet2Vet program that offers ski and snowboard lessons for vets, by vets. “We have several highly skilled ski and snowboard instructors who also have served in the Army, Air Force and Marines,” said Robin May, director of the Angel Fire Ski and Snowboard School. “Our veteran instructor team is ready to teach their fellow vets on a peer-to-peer basis. They have a unique perspective having served our country and teaching a sport that they love.”Lessons and equipment are being offered to Military Winterfest registrants at half the regular price.

Vet2Vet lesson reservations for every age and ability level are highly recommended and should be made no later than 48 hours before arriving. After booking lessons vets should meet in front of the Ski and Snowboard School sign at 9:45 a.m. or 1:45 p.m. ready to go, he said.To book Vet2Vet lessons during one of the following three group sessions call (844) 218-4107.

Vet2Vet Group Instruction Schedule:

  • Fri. Feb. 11, 2 – 3:45 p.m.
  • Sat. Feb. 12, 10 – 11:45 a.m.
  • Sat. Feb. 12, 2 – 3:45 p.m.

Additionally, vets with special needs are urged to sign up two-weeks in advance for Angel Fire’s Adaptive Program (844) 218-4107.

Recognizing the family nature of the festival, organizers have added a KidFest with several activities: a Snow Dog Show, photo ops with a “Snow Bear,” Skijoring, a Juggling Sheriff, a chance to meet a real cowgirl, a Snow Ball Corn Hole Toss, a Snowman Contest, an attempt to establish a Snow Angel Record, and a s’mores and cocoa party.

Also, Dana Bowman, a former U.S. Army Golden Knight & double amputee will return to Angel Fire for the 3rd year to skydive over the ski mountain carrying an enormous American Flag.
